Eigenschaften
Die Genexpression von OAS1 wird durch Interferone eingeleitet. Die OAS1 erzeugt nach Bindung von dsRNA aus Adenosintriphosphat 2β²-5β²-Oligoadenylat.cite-ref-2[2] Das 2β²-5β²-Oligoadenylat aktiviert die RNase L, die den Abbau von RNA in einer Zelle bewirkt. Dadurch wird die Genexpression in der Zelle temporΓ€r gemindert.
Bei einer Infektion mit West-Nil-Virus wird OAS1 durch eine Stem-loop-SekundΓ€rstruktur am 5β²-Ende der viralen RNA aktiviert.cite-ref-3[3] Bestimmte Mutationen im Gen der OAS1 fΓΌhren zu einer erhΓΆhten AnfΓ€lligkeit fΓΌr Infektionen mit West-Nil-Viren.cite-ref-4[4] Manche Mutationen sind Prognosemarker fΓΌr den Krankheitsverlauf der multiplen Sklerose.cite-ref-5[5]
